Blooming marvellous – we won!

Those of you who follow this blog will know that I am one of the photographers for Bury in Bloom, an independent charity in Bury St. Edmunds whose aim is to promote our green and beautiful town.

Following the Anglia in Bloom judging visit in July, it has been a nerve-wracking couple of months waiting for the announcement of the winners at the awards ceremony in Gorleston yesterday. Thankfully all the hard work by the town paid off as Bury St Edmunds was awarded Best Overall Entry as well as three gold awards, one for Large Town (a category which Bury won overall) and two in the Large Parks category. The town also won a special award for environmental quality and the Bury Water Meadows River Lark Project was nominated in the Best Conservation Project category.

Not quite sure how we are going to top that next year.

The local press and social media have taken Bury’s success to their hearts in an outbreak of media frenzy and it was lovely to see one of my images used in the East Anglian Daily Times’ online article about the awards.

We now wait to see if Bury is put forward to compete in the 2018 Britain in Bloom competition. I am so proud to be part of this Suffolk community and am humbled to play a very small part in helping to make this beautiful cathedral town so floral.
