Community spirit

A couple of weeks ago I was asked by Bury in Bloom to photograph the official unveiling of the rejuvenated Parkway underpass in Bury St Edmunds.  The popular walkway into town, under one of the main roads around Bury, was quite frankly looking rather shabby and a chance meeting between a local resident and the Bury in Bloom coordinator led to the idea of a makeover.

With the help of funding from local organisations, a donation of paint from the nearby B&Q home improvement store and a lot of hard work from a group of volunteers, the underpass has been transformed. The planting around it has been tidied up too by the Borough council so the whole area is looking spick and span.  The underpass itself now sports better signage, improved lighting and a clear map and the walls are decorated with large photographs of the town.

As part of the makeover, more photographs were used to decorate the doors to the nearby multi-story carpark and I was so pleased for my talented friend Jo who had four of her images selected, picturing the town’s cathedral through the seasons.

The new-look underpass is now much more welcoming for people walking into the town.  The makeover has attracted loads of compliments on social media from local townspeople and I was pleased to see some of my images from the unveiling feature in an article in the local press.

If you’re looking for some photographs to record an event or to promote or advertise your company or community please get in touch.  Maybe those involved would like a picture for posterity or to put on social media or perhaps you’re thinking about sending an article to the press.  If you think I can help at all, I’d love to hear from you and we can have a chat about what I could do for you.
